About Us

Thoroughbred Breeders Australia is the national peak body representing the interests of the Australian thoroughbred breeding industry.

Australia is home to one of the world’s largest and most successful thoroughbred breeding sectors, supported by breeders of all sizes across every state and territory. From major commercial farms to smaller breeders and family-run operations, the industry plays an important role in rural and regional communities.

TBA advocates on behalf of breeders with Federal and State Governments, government agencies, racing authorities and other organisations whose decisions affect the Australian thoroughbred breeding industry.

The breeders we represent are at the heart of their communities, providing employment, investment and support for a wide range of related professions and services. Breeders also play an important role as custodians of the land and of the horses in their care, with a strong focus on sustainability, welfare and the long-term future of the industry.

TBA has a database of more than 4,000 individual breeders and industry participants, and works closely with Australia’s six state breeders’ associations.

TBA is funded through a levy paid by vendors on thoroughbreds sold at auction.
