William
Inglis and Son Ltd is a family-owned bloodstock auction company founded in 1867
with the Inglis Horse Bazaar, a general auction house on Pitt Street in the
Sydney CBD.
The
Australian Easter Yearling Sale conducted at Newmarket in April is the flagship
event on the Inglis calendar, attracting the finest horseflesh in the southern
hemisphere, as well as buyers from all over Australia and throughout the world.
It is the barometer for all thoroughbred interests in Australasia and an
integral part of the Australian horse racing culture.
While
Easter is undeniably the high point of the year for William Inglis and Son, it
is just the high-profile elite end of the market. The San Miguel William Inglis
Yearling Sale Series comprises six specific yearling sales designed to cater to
every level of the bloodstock industry in Australasia.
Newmarket
in Sydney plays host to the Easter, Classic and Sires’ Produce sales, while
Oaklands, the Victorian base of William Inglis and Son, stages the Premier and
Autumn yearling sales. The Scone Yearling Sale conducted in May is the most
successful country sale in Australia.
A
partnership between Asian brewing giant San Miguel and William Inglis and Son
has led to a lucrative range of incentive races for horses sold at the Yearling
Sale Series. Graduates from these sales have the chance to compete for more than
$2.3 million in prizemoney, the highlight event coming in April with the running
of the $1 million San Miguel William Inglis Heroic Championship at Royal
Randwick.
Newmarket
Complex, Sydney
The
world-renowned Newmarket site at Randwick - headquarters for William Inglis and
Son today - was first used in 1906. Developed and upgraded over the years, it
boasts a world class sales arena with seating for more than 1000 people and four
stable complexes accommodating up to 600 horses.
Newmarket
is the premier sales venue in the Southern Hemisphere and will remain so, thanks
to ongoing plans for it's improvement and enhancement. In December 2001, we
completed a total revamp of Stable Two, complete with state of the art design
and generous parade areas, while in 2002 saw the addition of a brand new X-Ray
Repository facility.
Set
on 11 acres of landscaped gardens, just 6km from the Sydney CBD and 10km from
the Kingsford Smith International Airport, Newmarket represents a unique blend
of history and all the convenience of modern-day practicality.
Oaklands
Complex, Melbourne
The
company's expansion into the progressive Victorian market in January of 1994 has
added new dimensions - with the establishment of an annual calendar of Inglis
bloodstock sales.
The
Oaklands complex is approximately 30km north of the Melbourne CBD on 100 acres
of land on which the company has refurbished and upgraded six stable blocks
accommodating over 500 horses and a world class indoor sales auditorium.
The
success of the Super Vobis Scheme in Victoria (Owner and Breeder Incentive
Scheme) has contributed to the depth of the racing industry and has added
greatly to the appeal of Victorian bred horses sold at Oaklands.
