 58. Something for everyone in Perth sale

20/05/2003

The Magic Millions Perth Mixed Thoroughbred sale will be conducted on Sunday June 15th when a capacity day of selling will commence at 11.00am at Belmont Park racecourse.

A feature of the sale will be the unreserved reduction sections from Rangeview and Korilya Studs among the two hundred and thirty four lots, which have been catalogued.

First to go under the hammer will be 11 unraced two year olds, and included are a Scenic filly from Ahava, a listed race winner of nine events and $157,225, a Umatilla filly and an Old Spice filly whose half brother made $30,000 at the last Perth yearling sales. She is a half sister to stakes winner Sammy The Bull.

There are also youngsters by Dr Johnson, Hideyoshi and Stay Tuned and Polish Blue.
The sale of the prolific stakes winning five-year-old mare Lady Wild will feature in the racehorse section. A winner of 10 races and $205,350, Lady Wild raced only a matter of weeks ago.

Other racehorses include the five year old gelding Marquis Cut, winner of three races, (two at Ascot) from only 20 starts and Russian Cut, a six year old winner of two (one at Ascot) and nine placings from 30 starts are both by Marooned.

The dual winning Tribu mare Trimatic and Is It True winner True are also included in this sector.

Another interesting entry is a three year old unraced colt by Don’t Say Halo out of Chosen Crown, a half sister to international Champion Sire Chief’s Crown.
Included in the yearling segment of twenty eight is the Grand Lodge colt out of the Sir Tristram mare Luna Belle, a half sister to $1.2 million earner Aerosmith. The Grand Lodge/Sir Tristram cross is of course responsible for producing Northerly’s recent conqueror, Freemason.

The Filante filly out of Marscay mare Tabaray Lady, a half sister to Perth Cup winner Cardinal Colours will command attention while other yearlings by Serheed, Tribu, Second Empire, Key Business, Chanteclair, Love A Dane, Ron Bon etc should be sought out.
All yearlings sold at this sale are eligible for entry into the $150,000 2004 Perth Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic.

Lots 50 to 76 is an unreserved reduction of Ellie Giles Korilya Stud and includes weanlings, yearlings, broodmares and racehorses. A fair selection the broodmares are from proven stakes winning families and are in foal to Korilya’s consistent stallions Lomond Bay and Surtee.

Rangeview Stud will follow on with an unreserved reduction of 40 weanlings, yearlings and broodmares, many from very commercial families with a good selection in foal to the versatile sire Key Business and their well bred young stallion Love A Dane who averaged $24,000 at the recent Premier yearling sales.

Durham Lodge has a selection of ten mares, the majority covered by the Danehill’s Derby winning son Blackfriars, while Heytesbury Thoroughbreds have seven broodmares listed including Zanta Rose, the dam of one of Western Australia’s current leading 2yos, Rose of Thunder, who sold for $50,000 as a yearling last year. Zanta Rose has been covered by Second Empire whose progeny sold up to $110,000 at this years yearling sales.

Exciting young sires Blackfriars, Second Empire, Tayasu Tsuyoshi, Lord Dane and Akhenaton along with proven stallions Scenic, Umatilla, Don’t Say Halo, Corporate Raider, Kenfair, Loup Savage, Honour And Glory, Citidancer, Magic Of Money, Euclase, Dr Johnson and Zedrich will be represented among the 37 weanlings on offer in the next section of selling. Included is a Don’t Say Halo half brother to recent Magic Millions 2yo Classic winner, Rose Of Thunder.

The last portion of the sale will be devoted to 78 broodmares. Lady Clara, a full sister to Group 3 winner of $208,385, Master Park is a classy addition to the broodmare section as her Tribu yearling colt fetched $31,000 at this years Magic Millions sale in March.

The upsurge of selling at the recent Premier Perth yearling sales argues well for investing in good broodmare propositions and no doubt many trainers will be on the look out for new additions to their stables. Local trainers also have a great selection of yearlings included in this sale that look to be marketable from a Horses In Training view point while future yearling vendors have a wide scope of choice in the weanling range.

Magic Millions have put together a sale with everyone in mind. Should you require catalogues or have any queries staff at the Nisbet St, Ascot office will be happy to assist or phone 94772455.
