Ever
since Coolmore made the decision not to shuttle Hennessy to Australia in 2003
the son of Storm Cat has been on an amazing stakes winning roll that has taken
him into the top ten stallions in Australia.
The Bede Murray trained Half Hennessy (b c 3y Hennessy (US) - Singeing Lamp by
Blazing Sadles) looks to be finally living up to the promise that made him on of
the most promising two-year olds in the nation last season. The handsome
three-year old colt had not won in 8 starts since his victory in the Listed Ming
Dynasty Quality at Randwick on Septmber 7 last year before his win in the
$201,500 3yo Group 2 Grand Prix Stakes (2140m) in race record time at Eagle Farm
on Sunday.
A $65,000 purchase by Murray at the 2001 Sydney Classic Yearling Sale Half
Hennessy defeated General Minolta (Nediym (USA)) by a length with Mahtoum (Suave
Dancer (USA)) half/length back in third.
From 20 starts Half Hennessy has recorded 5 wins 3 seconds and one third for
earnings of $567,650. Last season he won the Group 3 Illawarra Classic at Kembla
Grange and was runner-up in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) and Heroic
Championship (1300m) both at Randwick.
Half Hennessy is the fifth stakes winner for Hennessy in the past 8 weeks. He
joins Diamond Dash (ex City Living by Citidancer) winner the $101,000 Group 3
W.A Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Ascot, Grand Armee winner of the $2,410,360
Group I San Miguel - Doncaster Handicap (1600m) Royal Randwick, For The Good
Times (ex Auvergne Miss by Semipalatinsk (USA)) winner of the Listed SAJC,
