4. Newhaven Dispersal Highlights Broodmare Opener

The opening session of the 2003 Australian Broodmare Sale kicked off at Newmarket this morning, with 170 lots selling at an average price of $58,574 and gross receipts of $9,957,500.

The unreserved dispersal of the Newhaven Park Stud broodmares added further depth to this year's catalogue and a total of 45 mares were sold at an average price of $68,455 and gross sales of $3,080,500.

The highest price of the opening session was $725,000 for lot 211, the multiple stakes winning racemare Dandify. The daughter of Danehill amassed $752,020 in prizemoney during her racing career and was purchased by Nemeris Lodge.
