 36. Strong selling continues as Sale concludes

08/05/2003

The records at the Magic Millions National Sales Series continued today with another strong session on the final day of the four day sale on the Gold Coast.

Some 150 lots were sold at today’s National Broodmare Sale for a gross of $620,350 and a very healthy 78.95 per cent clearance.

“The past four days have proven a great success,” Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester said following the sale this evening.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the positive results from all four days.”

“We’ve had a swag of great results and records fall over the sale and the clearance rate today was brilliant,” Chester continued.

Today’s National Broodmare Sale bucked the trend of a similar broodmare sale in Sydney, which boasted a clearance of just 65.31 per cent.

“We couldn’t have been blamed for being concerned about today’s session,” Chester said of the expected clearance difficulties. “Vendors had great problems trying to sell their stock in Sydney and you would have thought that would have continued here this week.”

The top price today was $36,000 for the well bred Royal Academy mare Paradise Walk, a mare from the wonderful Denise’s Joy family. Offered by the new owner of Turangga Farm, Stuart Ramsey, Paradise Walk was talk to Victorian based breeding operation Tara Farm.
The leading buyer today was renowned thoroughbred expert Les Young. Buying under his Doncaster Bloodstock Services banner, Young snapped up ten mares for a total of $72,400.

Meanwhile, a handful of horses from yesterday’s Select National Broodmare Sale were sold overnight, boosting yesterday’s clearance and gross figures to 71.2% and $9,691,250 respectively.
