 25. Fantastic Light's Sister Wins Pretty Polly Stakes

06/05/2003

Hi Dubai, a full sister to Darley Stud’s Fantastic Light, provided Godolphin with it’s first European success of 2003 when she won the Listed R L Davison Pretty Polly Stakes (10f) at Newmarket on Sunday.

Having her first start of the season Hi Dubai (Rahy-Jood, by Nijinsky II) defeated Hold to Ransom (Red Ransom-Wassifa by Sure Blade) by a length with Oblige (Robellino-Acquiesce, by Generous) 3 ½-lengths back in third. Bookmakers were impressed enough to make Hi Dubai a 5/1 favourite for the Epsom Oaks (G1).

Frankie Dettori said: ‘We've always thought a lot of this filly - she is a full-sister to Fantastic Light. She won the fillies’ trial in Dubai but just lacks a little bit of experience. I wanted to see that she really stayed.

‘When I went to the front, she just waited for the others to chase her up but she fought really well and should improve a lot. With a couple of nice works, we should be heading to the Oaks at Epsom.’

Saeed bin Suroor, her trainer, commented: ‘She is an Oaks filly now - we will decide whether to give her another run or a work-out before the big race - she needed this race.’

Hi Dubai’s dam Jood was a $US2,000,000 purchase by the Maktoum’s at the 1990 Keeneland July Sale. A bay filly by the champion Nijinsky out of Canadian Oaks winner Kamar, Jood was placed at her only two starts.

Kamar, the dam of Jood, was honoured as Canada’s Champion 3yo filly of her year. She has proved a rare jewel at stud earning the Kentucky Broodmare Of The Year title in 1990. She is the dam of Champion Canadian 3yo Key To The Moon (Wajima), multiple Group One winning filly Gorgeous (Slew O’ Gold), Kentucky Oaks winner Seaside Attraction (Seattle Slew), Princess Margaret Stakes (G3) winner Hiaam (Alydar) as well as Jood.

Seaside Attraction has continued the family tradition at stud. Four of her first five foals are stakes winners including the Champion 2yo filly Golden Attraction (Mr. Prospector) the winner of 8 races and $911,000 including the Frizette Stakes (G1), Spinaway Stakes (G1), and the Matron Stakes (G1); Cape Town (Seeking The Gold) winner of 5 races and $800,000 including the Florida Derby (G1); and the Group Three winner Cape Canaveral (Mr. Prospector) and his Cherry Hinton Stakes winning sister Red Carnival.

Love Smitten, a full sister to Kamar, is the dam of Godolphin’s champion colt Swain (Nashwan) a two-time champion on the turf who won or placed in 20 of his 22career starts, 16 of which were stakes races and 11 of those Group One races. Twice winner of the King George V1 And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes G1 Swain also ran a nose second to Kentucky Derby winner Silver Charm in the Dubai World Cup and a controversial third to Awesome Again and Silver Charm in the Breeders Cup Classic (G1).

The dual Emirates World Champion, Breeders’ Cup Turf winner and a six-time Group and Grade 1 winner Fantastic Light will arrive this spring for his second southern hemisphere season at Darley Stud, Aberdeen..
