The
2003 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale has made a strong start on the Gold
Coast today.
The highlight mares in the catalogue to the present time have been well sought
out by leading buyers with prices of up to $500,000 being offered for the star
matrons.
Ateates was an early star. She was knocked down for $500,000 to local buyer Ken
Turner of Almavale Bloodstock. A full sister to the former outstanding Group One
winner Ruffles, Ateates is a four time Group Two winning daughter of the
brilliant sire Zeditave.
A little later the beautifully bred Brocco mare Coat was knocked down to New
Zealand based Springfield Stud for a cool $350,000.
The current day sprinting star Fair Embrace, a daughter of the brilliant sire
Strategic, failed to be sold during her time in the ring, but was sold moments
later to Baramul Stud for $400,000.
Fair Embrace’s stablemate Gold Lottey, a daughter of the champion Victorian
sire Encosta de Lago, was sold to Queensland based agent Neil Jenkinson for
$390,000.
One of the expected sale toppers La Bella Dama failed to reach her reserve price
of $650,000. A final offering of $600,000 was rejected by her owners. The Group
One winning daughter of Desert Sun was presented in foal to the champion
Giant’s Causeway.
There are still a number of quality mares to be sold today including the
wonderful producer Procrastinate and the outstanding stud prospect Presumed
Innocent. There are also two imported mares with black type packed international
black type in foal to the champion Danehill.
