Catalogues
are now available for the 2003 HTBA Scone Yearling Sale (18th May,2003), the
most successful country yearling sale in New South Wales. Sires represented at
Scone this year include: Arena, Beautiful Crown (USA), Canny Lad, Catbird,
Commands, Desert Prince (IRE), Encosta de Lago, Flying Spur, Lion Hunter, Quest
for Fame (GB), Real Quiet (USA), Red Ransom (USA), Secret Savings (USA),
Snippets, Strategic, Success Express (USA), Xaar (GB), etc.
The sale features a host of well related youngsters including: a half-brother to
recent Group Three winning filly Yvonne, by Spectrum (IRE); a half-brother to
slick sprinter Feel the Noise by first crop sire Marquetry (USA); a half-sister
to smart WA stakes-winner Zoometric, by Danzero; a half-sister to stakes-winners
Moongara and Our Lance by Loup Sauvage (USA) from the grand producer Lion’s
Gold; a three-quarter brother-in-blood to stakes-winner Seto Stayer, by Bellotto
(USA) from Ranch Queen; a half-brother to sizzling speedster Blazing Reality by
Catbird; also a half-brother to Malaysian stakes-winner Fire Phoenix II, by Fuji
Kiseki (Jap) from prolific producer Siloel (Can).
Other pedigree highlights include: a Spectrum (IRE) colt from former champion
New Zealand filly Burletta (NZ); a Redoute’s Choice colt from Group Three
winner Regal Sea (NZ); and a Bubble Gum Fellow (Jap) filly from stakes-winner
Adagietto (NZ).
An impressive draft of nine yearlings by well performed sire Beautiful Crown
(USA) are likely to find favour with buyers. The Alanbridge Stud based stallion
has been on fire in recent weeks, represented by good metropolitan winners Live
in Fear and Bella Coureuse, as well as outstanding juvenile Bella Corona, winner
of the AJC Keith Mackay Stakes L at Royal Randwick.
Another young stallion to consider is Nothin’ Leica Dane, who has half a dozen
yearlings to choose from at Scone. The Victoria Derby hero is beginning to come
of age as a sire, with his oldest progeny now reaching maturity at three and
being given their chance over the longer journeys.
His exciting daughter Ain’t Seen Nothin’ put together a remarkable sequence
of wins this autumn, before running bravely for fourth in the AJC Australian
Oaks Gr 1. While on the opposite side of the country he has been represented by
top filly Superior Star, a winner of four races including the WATC Oaks Gr 2.
If you’re after a staying type of horse and don’t mind giving your purchase
some time to develop, then Nothin’ Leica Dane might be the ticket. His draft
includes a full brother (Lot 61) to recent Canterbury winner Nordic Emperor, who
has won since the catalogue went to print.
