Natural
Blitz ran right up to his luckless last start fourth behind Delago Brom in the
Australian Guineas (G1) when running out an easy 2 ¼-lengtrhs winner of the
$201,000 Group 2 Shannons Classic (1800m) at Caulfield on Saturday. Glefti ran
on from last to take second place from Gallic giving Arrowfield Stud’s Dehere
(USA) the quinella.
It was another successful weekend for Dehere (USA) who had an interstate treble
after the exciting return to racing of the Gai Waterhouse-trained Bollinger (Dehere
(USA)-Bint Marscay by Marscay) a runaway 3 ¾-lengths winner of the Matador
Bullbars Hcp (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens while the 4yo gelding Ecstasy (Dehere-Food
Of Love by Lunchtime (GB)) won his first race in almost a year in the BRL Hardy
Wines Hcp. (1300m) at Eagle Farm.
For the Doug Harrison-trained Natural Blitz it was the first stakes win and
third win overall from 13 starts. Purchased for $85,000 from the 2001 Magic
Millions Adelaide Sale the 3yo colts earnings now stand at $202,100.
Harrison has trained the first two foals out of the 1996 Reginald Allen Hcp. (LR)
winner Mohave Dancer a daughter of Zabeel that also ran third to Assertive Lass
and Dashing Eagle in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes.
The first foal of Mohave Dancer was the Thunder Gulch colt Super Blitz who was
purchased by Harrison for $155,000 at the 2000 Adelaide Magic Millions sale.
Super Blitz returned $85,000 of his purchase price as a two-year old with a win
in the VATC Super Vobis 2 YO H. (1000 m.), second in the MVRC William Inglis Cup
(LR), third in the SAJC Magic Millions Classic and fourths in the SAJC Breeders'
Stakes (G2) and VATC Debutant Stakes (LR).
The following season Super Blitz was exported to Hong Kong where he has won a
further 2 races and placed 4 times from 12 starts for earnings of over $500,000.
Only hows after Natural Blitz was successful in the Group 2 Shannons Classic at
Caulfield Super Blitz finished third in the HK$1.6 million Lights Of Millions
Hopes Hcp (1800m) at Sha Tin.
Mohave Dancer has a yearling filly by Fasliyev (USA) and after missing to
Thunder Gulch (USA) in 2001 was served by Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus
last year.
