Metal Storm Filly
Equals Perth Record

A
filly by top WA-based stallion Metal Storm equalled the Perth yearling sale
record when she was sold for $150,000 at the opening session of the Perth Magic
Millions on March 11.
The filly was knocked down to the Magic Millions WA manager Murray Tillett, who
said he acting as agent for a private buyer.
The figure equalled the WA record of $150,000 paid for former top sprinter Rich
Haul when she was sold in the mid 1980s.
The Metal Storm filly from Bonny Guest, offered by Mungrup Stud, is a sister to
classy gallopers Kalatiara, Antique and Kentiara.
Asian buyers, particularly from Malaysia, helped the opening session average
achieve a healthy rise on the overall average achieved in 2002 for the two
select sessions.
A total of 82 lots sold for an aggregate of $1,991,000 with the average climbing
to $24,280, compared to last year’s overall figure of $18,478.
DAY TWO
The final select session of the Perth Premier Yearling Sale on March 12 was an
outstanding success recording a clearance rate of over 83 percent.
The average price for the two select sessions of the sale rose from $18,474 in
2002 to a record $24,791 withl the overall clearance a healthy 77.58 percent.
Magic Millions managing director David Chester was delighted with the results.
"It was great to see vendors meeting the market", he said.
"This year's sale has been supported strongly by clients from Singapore and
Malaysia.
"All credit must go to Murray Tillett and the Perth staff as well as the
local Breeders' Association for their ability to attract these buyers to
Perth."
Leading trainers and agents and international identities heading the Perth
buying bench;
The top three buyers of the sale were WA-based identities John Chalmers
Bloodstock (total spend $378,000), Japan Australian Bloodstock Agents (total
spend $300,000) and local trainer Vern Brockman (total spend $286,000).
A strong representation from Malaysia included Beh Chin Pheng (total spend
$269,000), Lucky Racing Syndicate, Bonny Ng Yuen Peng, KL Chong, KL Tan, Nigel
Landers, Wilming Yeo, Jonny Lim, Tan Swee Hock, Tan Thong Lai, Simon Liew Yoon
Nam, NG Kam Thong, NG Kok Hoong.
Singapore was also dominant led by Richard Tea Geow Tong (total spend $215,500),
Stephen Gray, Albert Cheah, Victor Sujanani.
Macau was represented by Michael Kent and South Africa was represented by Des
Scott and Roy Magner.
Other prominent buyers from interstate included Tony Noonan, Mark Pilkington,
Bede Murray, Lawton Thoroughbred Racing, Mark Bairstow and John McNair.
