Stud has once again shown its commitment to Australia and demonstrated a
willingness to tackle Coolmore Stud head on in the shuttle stallion stakes with
ten high-class young stallions making the trip south in 2003.
Five new sires will stand at the Darley Stud base at Aberdeen in the NSW Hunter
Valley. They are the first season US sire sensation Elusive Quality (Gone
West-Touch of Greatness by hero’s Honor) who has sired eight Stakes winners
from his sensational first crop; Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry
(Machiavellian-Helen Street by Troy) the highest rated horse in the world in
2002; champion European miler Noverre (Rahy- Danseur Fabuleux by Northern
Dancer) the European Champion Three-Year-Old Miler that won or placed in 11
Group 1 races; multiple Gr1 winner Tobougg (Barathea- Lacovia by Majestic Light)
winner of the Prix de la Salamandre (G1) and Darley Dewhurst Stakes (G1) at two;
and US Dwyer Stakes (G2) winner E Dubai (Mr Prospector-Words Of War by Lord Of
War) a $1.35 million yearling that finished runner-up to the champion Point
Given in the Travers Stakes (G1)
Returning to Darley after a year’s break is world Champion miler King’s Best
(Kingmambo-Allegretta by Lombard). Two-time Emirates World Champion and
record-breaking Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Fantastic Light (Rahy-Jood by
Nijinsky) will be back too, having successfully completed his first season in
2002, as will the proven outstanding young sire Carnegie (Sadler’s
Wells-Detroit by Riverman) while Xaar (Zafonic-Monroe by Sir Ivor), the highest
rated juvenile standing in Australia, and Lujain (Seeking The Gold-Satin Flower
by Shadeed), winner of Europe’s top six furlong race for youngsters, will also
be at Darley in 2003.
Oliver Tait, who manages Darley, said, ‘We’ve selected an exceptional roster
of horses to join Carnegie at Darley this season. We have several who are noted
for their excellence at two, others who have set records, and numerous
Champions. All are extremely well bred, and we are particularly pleased to be
able to introduce to Australia a proven stallion as exciting and as brilliant as
Elusive Quality. He’s already produced two Stakes winners to Danzig line
mares, which bodes well for a big future here in Australia.’
