 12. Inglis Graduates in Hong Kong

03/03/2003

Former stakes-winning Perth three year old Lord Mason, a horse with the honour of being the cheapest stakes-winner sold by Inglis in the 2002/2003 Australian racing season, emerged as a winner in Hong Kong at the weekend under the new moniker of EQUATOR KID.

The horse was originally knocked down for just $3,000 at the 1999 June Weanling Sale in Melbourne before being re-offered as a yearling in Adelaide and finding his way to Perth.
Last summer, Equator Kid or rather Lord Mason, made his name as one of the best young stayers in Western Australia. Then trained by Vernon Brockman, the son of Kenvain won five of eight starts including two Listed events and a second in the WATC Derby Gr 1.
Now prepared by David Hayes, Equator Kid was able to reverse the disappointing form he had shown since leaving Australia, to record an impressive win in Class One company over 1800 metres.

First time winner WHATA FEELING scored at Happy Valley last Wednesday, also for David Hayes. The Geiger Counter (USA) three year old was pinhooked from the 2001 Sires’ Produce Sale for just $32,500 by Melbourne bloodstock agent Rob Roulston and re-offered at the 2001 Australian Breeze Up Sale where he fetched $90,000. His dam Decoy Doll (NZ) is a half-sister to champion galloper Red Anchor.
