The
Brad Marzato trained juvenile Subscribe, labelled the best two year old produced
by Zabeel since the mighty Octagonal, has a full sister coming to Easter this
year.
The filly is consigned by Coolmore Australia as agent and is the second foal of
Danelagh, winner of the 1998 VATC Blue Diamond Stakes Gr 1.
"She’s a really nice filly,” said Brett Howard of Coolmore Australia.
“I like her a lot, she’s a mix of Zabeel and Danehill, you can see both of
them in her.”
Danelagh was also an Easter Yearling Sale graduate, bought back in 1997 by her
breeder Keith Biggs for $190,000 after narrowly missing her reserve of $200,000.
AAP Racing & Sports reports that Darley have offered $1.1 million for the
Zabeel filly in the wake of Subscribe’s win, but at this point in time the
offer has not been accepted and she is still in the Easter catalogue.
Following her racetrack success, Biggs and a syndicate of West Australian
investors then bred Subscribe and his yearling sister before selling the mare
privately to Darley Australia.
“When the Darley crew came to look at Danelagh I took them up the paddock,”
said Howard. “She had the Zabeel filly at foot, a lovely foal, and that’s
what really sold them on the mare.”
Danelagh was far from the most expensive Danehill (USA) filly of her year, that
honour going to Compulsion (from Bold Promise) at $490,000 and Rose O’War
(from Savana City) at $480,000.
Compulsion went on to win the VATC Blue Diamond Preview Gr 3, while Rose O’War
claimed the scalp of Sunline as a three year old in the VATC Angus Armanasco
Stakes Gr 3. Both young mares are set to star as broodmares this Easter, with
their fillies by Red Ransom (USA) sure to be among the most appealing of the
sale.
Danehill (USA) broodmares are really starting to hit top gear, just take a look
at the weekend’s results.
Apart from Subscribe, winner of the MRC Veuve Clicquot Stakes L, there was also
Group Three winner Gordo and the well named Mr Trickster, who produced a rare
piece of magic to dethrone Northerly and win the MRC Victoria Gold Cup L.
Mr Trickster’s dam Lady Danette will be represented by a Fuji Kiseki (Jap)
filly from Arrowfield Stud as agent. The youngster is one of 19 Easter yearlings
from daughters of Danehill (USA).
Not to be outdone, mares by arch rival Zabeel produced a pair of Group Two
winners at the weekend, in the shape of improving three year old Natural Blitz
and tiny but talented Kiwi filly Raspberry Ripple.
Daughters of Zabeel account for nine Easter yearlings including Cambridge Stud’s
much talked about Danehill (USA) colt from outstanding racemare Champagne (NZ).
