Grand Delight, an Australian-bred son of Arrowfield Stud’s Hurricane Sky, has
swept aside the imposing presence of three international winners to complete an
extraordinary season as winner of Hong Kong’s Horse of the Year title.
Grand Delight, who won at Group One level for owner-breeder David Moodie and
trainer Mathew Ellerton in Melbourne (VRC Emirates Stakes G1) under his previous
name of Desert Eagle, followed in the footsteps of Mr Vitality 10 years ago in
winning the Hong Kong sprinters’ Triple Crown and then graduating to become
Horse of the Year.
Grand Delight (Hurricane Sky – Egyptian Ibis) is now raced by Mr and Mrs Peter
Law Kin-san and is trained by John Size. He was ridden throughout his 2003
campaign by Shane Dye. The five-year-old gelding won four of five starts this
term, including a trio of Group 1's that made up the Hong Kong Sprint
Championship Series.
“Grand Delight’s Hong Kong Horse of the Year award has capped off a
superlative season for Hurricane Sky who also sired Group 1 Oakleigh Plate
winner River Dove in 2003,” said John Messara.
“With results likes these, Hurricane Sky is extremely good value at his 2003
service fee of only $11,000 including GST.”
