Australian bred three year old CHOISIR (2001 Classic $55,000) blazed to victory
in the King’s Stand Stakes Gr 2 at Royal Ascot in a milestone achievement for
the Australian racing and breeding industry.
Forward thinking trainer Paul Perry made a decision to bypass the Sydney autumn
and Brisbane winter carnivals in pursuit of a more challenging objective.
We’ve always suspected that our sprinters could match it with the best in the
world and now we have hard evidence to back the claim.
Carrying the equivalent of 60.5 kg Choisir showed all his customary pace to
dominate the 20 horse field from the outset. He was three lengths clear coming
to the final furlong before being eased down to win by a length from Acclamation
and the favourite Oasis Dream.
The race is the first leg of a two pronged attack on the world renowned Royal
Ascot meeting, with Choisir set to back up in the Golden Jubilee Stakes Gr 1 on
Saturday.
"It's all systems go for Saturday now, providing he pulls up OK and does
well, which we really think he will do,” said Perry in a post race interview.
"It's just great, it's been a fabulous day and we're all so proud of
him!"
We’re proud of him too…….the staff and management at William Inglis and
Son wish to congratulate the Perry and Wallace families on their magnificent
achievement and wish them all the very best of luck for Saturday.
Choisir was purchased at the 2001 Classic Yearling Sale for $55,000 and went on
to win the $610,000 Inglis Classic in 2002. It’s a long way from Royal
Randwick to Royal Ascot, but Choisir is the genuine article……he can hold his
own in any company!
