Big sprinter Choisir became the first Australian horse to win at Royal Ascot
when he won the Group Two King's Stand stakes.
Choisir belied his odds of 25-1 to be quick out of the gates and led all the way
in the 1000m sprint down the Ascot straight.
Trained by Paul Perry in Newcastle, Choisir won the Lightning Stakes in
Flemington in February and jockey Johnny Murtagh eased up here to win by three
quarters of a length from Acclamation with Oasis Dream third.
"It's a great thrill to be here today and do that. It's one of the greatest
thrills you could have in your life I think," Perry said.
Perry, who also has a share in the three-year-old, lapped up the juicy odds
offered by the bookies who had obviously not done their homework.
"We couldn't believe the odds, they were great," he said.
Choisir returns to Ascot on Saturday to tackle the Group One 1200m Golden
Jubilee Stakes.
