Miss Anabaa (Anabaa-Midnight Shift by Night Shift) won her second consecutive
Irish Stakes race on Sunday in the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes at Cork relegating
John Singletons globe trotting mare Belle Du Jour (Dehere-Delightful Belle by
Balmerino) into second place.
On breeding the field of five runners could just as likely been lining up at
Randwick or Flemington. Only the third placegetter, the US$1.8 million Storm
Cat-Halo America 3yo colt Marino Marini, is by a sire that does not spend the
northern hemisphere winter in Australia.
Trained by Rae Guest the 4yo Miss Anabaa was winning for the third time from 9
starts. She is a daughter of the Night Shift mare Midnight Shift, which was also
trained by Guest to wins at Redcar and Leicester. Midnight Shift is a half
sister to the ill-fated stallion Owington, a crack sprinting son of Green
Desert, which won the Group 1 July Cup and runner-up in the Group 1 Middle Park
Stakes.
The first two weeks of June have proved very productive for Anabaa with Miss
Anabaa’s stakes double at Naas and Cork, star Hong Kong galloper Precision (ex
Stop Fiddling (IRE) by Welsh Term) successful in the HK$4,560,000 Champions and
Chater Cup (2400m) at Sha Tin and Maxwell (ex Malaisie by Bering) winning the
Listed Prix de Suresnes (2000m) at Longchamp.
Ana Marie (ex Marie de Ken by Kendor), which won the Group 2 Prix d'Harcourt in
March, finished a close fourth to Ange Gabriel in the Group 2 Grand Prix de
Chantilly on June 8 while Anabatik (ex Key Satellite by Chanteclair) filled the
same position in the HK$180,000 Sha Tin Vase (1000m) on June 7 cementing
Anabaa's position as second only to Danehill as the leading sire in Hong Kong
this season.
