Newcastle will honour local trainer Paul Perry & connections of his history-making colt Choisir with a series of special events beginning with a civic reception by Newcastle City Council at the City Hall from 4pm this afternoon.
The Newcastle Jockey Club will continue the tribute with a ‘Choisir Race Day’ at Broadmeadow tomorrow. NJC chief executive John Curtis told racenet.com.au: "Races will be named in honour of the team behind Choisir & there will be a special presentation made to them on the day. We've planned a 'royal' day to help celebrate the occasion with music, entertainment & free top hats & tiaras.
There
will be free entry & it would be great to see a big crowd on hand to
congratulate everyone behind this remarkable feat." The NJC yesterday
unveiled a new billboard on the main road outside Broadmeadow racecourse as part
of the celebration: it depicts Perry with Choisir after winning the Gr1 Golden
Jubilee Stakes in record time at England’s Royal Ascot & is titled
'Winners Are Grinners'. |
