Songline,
the dam of the all conquering Sunline, will be out to shake off the tag of
“one hit wonder” when one of her daughters takes to the racetrack for the
first time next month.
Song of Songs, the Danehill half sister to Sunline, is set to make her debut in
Victoria during August.
The rising three year-old is trained by Bel Esprit’s trainer John Symons, and
was spelled after two trials, including an impressive Ballarat win last January.
The filly was retained by her breeders Jack and Sue Woolridge of Inverness Stud
after failing to reach her $1m reserve at the 2002 Magic Millions Yearling sale
on the Gold Coast.
”Her trial win at Ballarat was a great relief,” said Sue Woolridge.
”Jack and I went down to watch the trial, and things didn’t look great
early, but when she balanced up in the straight she really lengthened stride
beautifully, and showed great acceleration.”
”It’s nice to have kept a half sister to Sunline, as there aren’t too many
other females in the family, so we will be able to keep the line going after
Songline.”
Songline is currently in foal to Galileo, whilst she looks likely to return to
Desert Sun this season.
Her yearling colt by Desert Sun, a full brother to Sunline, is progressing well
as he heads towards either the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale or Magic Millions
Gold Coast next year.
”He is a big strong colt, and has a great deal of confidence and carries
himself very well,” said Woolridge.
Songline’s 1999 Octagonal colt Octasong is yet to break his maiden status in
three starts for trainer John Hawkes. He did however indicate ability, before
returning to the spelling paddock in March.
Octasong was a $520,000 yearling purchase by John Hawkes at the Inglis Easter
Yearling Sale.
