The
recently retired Falvelon was one of the major highlights at last Sundays
Queensland Thoroughbred Stallion Expo on the Gold Coast.
The day was sponsored by the Queensland Thoroughbred Investment Scheme (QTIS),
Magic Millions and Sirecam. The expo was organised by the Queensland Owners and
Breeders Association (QOB)
QOB Chief Executive Officer Mark Forbes said the day went off without a hitch,
with a good crowd of well over 2,000 in attendance.
”The stallions were turned out in magnificent order, and a credit to their
respective studs,” said Forbes.
”This event will only go from strength to strength and will certainly go ahead
again next year.
”Several studmasters reported that the day was particularly worthwhile, with
plenty of bookings made.”
”One of the most encouraging features of the day was that a large number of
non-breeders attended, so we’ve been successful at attracting new blood to
this aspect of the industry.”
The key feature of the expo was the parade of some 29 Queensland stallions in
the main selling auditorium at the Gold Coast complex.
”All the stallions paraded superbly, with newcomers Falvelon, Show A Heart,
Count Albrecht, Sunday Knight and Springstreen particularly well received by
onlookers,” said Forbes.
”The ability to bring so many top stallions to the one venue for the viewing
pleasure of the public was no doubt the cornerstone of the event.”
The Expo also included a stallion nomination auction, which raised over $30,000
which will help promote Queensland breeding and ownership through the work of
the Queensland Owners and Breeders Association.
Top priced lot at the auction was a nomination to Falvelon, which was snapped up
by Magic Millions as agent for $13,750.
Falvelon enters stud this spring, standing at Glenlogan Park Stud at a fee of
$12,500 and is fully booked for his debut season at stud.
Several expert speakers also entertained large groups of over 400 people
throughout the day.
One of the more popular speakers was world renowned equine reproduction
specialist Dr David Pascoe of Oakey Veterinary Hospital.
Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester reviewed Sale Selection
techniques employed by his company when grading thoroughbreds for sale.
Newly appointed Magic Millions Private Sales co-ordinator Tony Williams
discussed the methods used when selecting a yearling at sale. |
