Despite
drawing a gloomy Sydney winter’s day, today’s inaugural Stud and Stallion
day at Randwick has concluded successfully.
A charity auction of stallion nominations to leading sires Johannesburg, Street
Cry, Octagonal and Desert Sun raised a total of $124,000 for Mission Australia.
Jonathon D’Arcy of Inglis and Son snapped up the Johannesburg nomination for a
New Zealand client at $31,000. A son of Hennessy, Johannesburg stands at
Coolmore stud this season at $27,500 including GST.
Tyreel Stud secured a service to Darley Stud’s Street Cry for $35,000, a handy
discount on his advertised fee of $38,500.
A service to Sunline’s sire Desert Sun went to William Inglis Victoria as
agent for $8,000. Desert Sun stands at Eliza Park Victoria this season at a fee
of $11,000.
The top lot of the auction was an Octagonal nomination, which was eventually
knocked down to South Australian Stud Naracoorte. They staved of Sydney agent
Anton Koolman to win the battle for $50,000. Octagonal stands at $55,000 at
Woodlands stud.
Stud and Stallion Day organiser Paul Fleming was pleased with the Auction
result, and was looking forward to improving the event in years to come.
”The first event is always the hardest, but the proceeds from the auction will
be well received by Mission Australia to improve the lives of underprivileged
children,” said Fleming.
”We will review the event, and we’ve already had a number of suggestions
which we will look at for next year.”
”It was a shame the weather couldn’t have been better, as it restricted the
number of outdoor activities we had planned, especially for the kids.”
The event featured stands and displays by a host of industry participants
including Arrowfield Stud, Coolmore Stud, Vinery, Darley, Eliza Park, Woodlands,
Emirates Park, Baerami Thoroughbreds, Inverness Stud, Thoroughbred Breeders
Victoria, Bloodhorse Review, Lawton Thoroughbred Racing , Inglis Insurance and
