 57. Classic Sale Picks Up at Newmarket

21/01/2003

2003 San Miguel William Inglis and Son Ltd
Classic Yearling Sale (Session Three)

Bidding had to pick up at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and luckily for vendors and the auctioneers it did in great style.

Just before many tucked into lunch the hungriness extended solely to yearlings as many of the leading buyers locked horns to grab their potential star of the track.

New Zealand based bloodstock buyer Paul Moroney, the younger brother of leading trainer Michael, got the ball rolling when he purchased a well presented bay filly by Jade Robbery for $75,000.

Catalogued as lot number 352, the Super Vobis qualified youngster from the Eliza Park draft is the first foal from the former triple Sydney winning Night Shift mare Night Dive.

Just a few lots later leading New South Wales based bloodstock agent Anton Koolman parted with $180,000 to buy the current sale topper, a colt by Danehill's Golden Slipper winning son Flying Spur.

A three quarter brother to the former brilliant juvenile French Braids, the colt was the first foal of the unraced Dehere mare Nuance.

Eliza Park's strong run at the sale continued when their Snippets filly, lot 362 entered the ring. A few minutes later it left after having been knocked down for a cool $100,000 to Gai Waterhouse.

The filly, an August foal, is the first foal of a lightly raced sister to the William Crockett Stakes winner Ringside Lady.

Three lot later the six figure mark was again reached when a colt by Danehill's well bred son Arena was offered by Werombi based Lomar Park Stud. Waterhose was again the buyer of the $100,000 sale.

The colt is from the three time winning Mister C mare Our High Sea, who is from the Silver Slipper placed Archregent mare Nun's Chorus.

The ongoing popularity of Lion Hunter continues with one of his grey colts being knocked down to Graeme Rogerson for $62,500 a short time later.

A half brother to two winners the colt is from the six time winning Palace Music mare Palace Fox, who is out of a half sister to Eva Grace and Splendid Speed.

Buyers during today's third and final session have included Gai Waterhouse, Paul Moroney, Anton Koolman, Paul Perry, Noel Mayfield-Smith, Shaun Dwyer, Mick Price, Freedman Brothers, Marc Conners, Vin Cox and Graeme Rogerson.
