 55. Commands Filly Tops Second Session

20/01/2003

A yearling by Woodland Stud’s first season sire Commands commanded plenty of attention before agent James Bester made the final bid of $130,000 to top the second session of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in Sydney.

Consigned by Edinglassie Stud Muswellbrook, as agent, the bay filly is a half sister to two winners out of the Marscay mare Flannelle, a half sister to duel Group 3 winner Rockets Galore.

“She was absolutely the filly of the sale, in fact, the horse of the sale, she looked like Danehill in every fibre of her body and she is out of a Marscay mare – a cross that has produced the likes of Catbird and Camarena, for example,” said Bester.
“There are few better-bred sons of Danehill, and Commands was among Danehill’s fastest sons. This filly was the finest mover I have seen for years and that is why trainers such as Paul Perry, Tim Martin, Matthew Smith, John Morish and others were all bidding on her,” he added.
“The market at this sale is certainly strong for nice horses that catch the eye,” said Bester, who purchased the filly for an undisclosed client.

Paul Moroney signed the ticket for $90,000 to secure a chestnut filly by former champion two-year old Encounter out of the non-winning Marscay mare Fast Life. Consigned by Twin Palms Stud the filly is a half sister to the multiple stakes-placed winners Life Is Beautiful (Quest For Fame) and Say Good Morning (Nightshift).

A half brother to the good money-spinner Questamatic (Quest For Fame) made $80,000 to a bid from Olympia Bloodstock. The bay colt is the third living foal of the Al hareb mare Charismatic a half sister to Breeders Plate (G3) winner Volts and the enigmatic Spend, which earned over $464,000 despite saluting the judge just three times including the Listed AJC Razor Sharp Hcp and the Listed Prime Television Quality Hcp.

With one day remaining the Classic sale, which started on Sunday afternoon, has averaged $29,662 for 205 yearlings sold, which is in line with the average achieved at last years sale.
