After
a shaky start with a high pass-in rate, the opening day of the William Inglis
Classic sale posted solid numbers. A total of 61 yearlings were sold for an
overall gross of $1,900,750 at an average price of $30,657. With the sale held
over three days this year there was no corresponding session last year.
The session-topper at $100,000 was a strongly made son of Arrowfield Stud’s
ill-fated stallion Snippets out of the high-class Mighty Avalanche mare Belle
Banne, winner of five races in Melbourne with earnings of over $121,000. The
colt, just the second foal of his dam, is a three-quarter brother to Merson
Cooper Stakes (LR) winner Miss Terrain (Spartacus). Victorian-based syndicators
Slade Bloodstock, prominent buyers at the recent Magic Millions sale, signed the
ticket for the bay, which was consigned by Attunga Stud, as agent for Copabella
Thoroughbreds.
Bart Cummings purchased a colt from the first crop by Danewin’s brother
Commands for $90,000. The brown is out of the 6-times winning Dieu d’Or mare
Affaire En Or whose grandam Great-Grandaughter is a half sister to the
incomparable Eight Carat, the grandam of Commands.
Emirate Park Stud’s Secret Savings has been having a great time of late and
leading Newcastle trainer Paul Perry snapped up a filly by the Doncaster
Handicap winner out of the city winning Kenmare mare Belle Desire for $85,000.
The grey is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Danewin two-year old Danish
Magic.
“Vendors who offered well conformed and well presented yearlings were
handsomely rewarded. Buyers were very conscious of selecting on type this
afternoon and weren’t afraid to back their judgement on the nicer
individuals” commented Reg Inglis, Managing Director.
