 43. Perth Magic Millions Breeding Bits

15/01/2003

Serheed continues his role as current leader on the General Australian Sires list with earnings of more than $4.5 million ahead of Danehill whose progeny have earned just over $3.2 million.

Obviously the standout earner for Western Australia's five-time champion sire Serheed is his mighty performer, Northerly however last Saturday at Ascot, trainer Ted Martinovich produced the winner of the two year old event, Laetare, a chestnut gelding by Serheed to take out what was the first leg of a double for the trainer.

It was Laetare's second race start and only a neck separated the runner up Outfitter, whilst the pair had cleared away from the rest of the field by 4 ½ lengths. Laetare is the first foal to race out the young broodmare Magdela, a dual city winner and daughter of former Breeders Cup Juvenile winner Is It True.

Former leading two-year-old sire Is It True is showing promise as a broodmare stallion and also sired the runner up, Outfitter.

Magdela's dam is the stakes placed Jevington mare Wilderness who won six races and is the daughter of WATC Supremacy Stakes winner County Clare.
