 27. South Africans Snare Octagonal Colt

10/01/2003

The increasing overseas presence at the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Yearling Sale continued on the Gold Coast late today when a striking black colt by Octagonal was sold to South Africa.

A half brother to the stakes winning filly Catango, the colt was sold to Andy Williams who was representing Worldwide Bloodstock for $260,000.

Williams said the colt would be sent to South Africa where he would be given every chance to prove his ability on the track.

"David Ferraris, the leading trainer in South Africa, will train him for us," Williams reported.

A regular at sales throughout Australia, Williams said he was immediately attracted to the colt when he first inspected him earlier in the week.

"He is a real racy type," Williams added. "And the mare four winners at one hundred percent."

"Overall he's a lovely looker and I'm pleased to have purchased him."

The colt, an August 2001 foaling, is from the Group Three National Stakes winning Bletchingly mare Dancer's Choice, a sister to the stakes performer Gambade.

She in turn is from the Karrakatta Plate winning filly Cheeky Trot, who you guessed it, is also from a stakes winner!
