 20. Average Up $10,000 for First Session

An exceptional first day of selling at the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast has seen the average price for a Magic Millions Yearling Sky rocket to $96,302 in Session One, from the 2002 Session One average of $86,735.


Record crowds flocked to the palm fringed sales centre, opposite the Gold Coast Turf Club to witness Session One of the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Yearling Sale which began at 12 Noon today, and concluded after the auctioneering of 210 lots at 7pm.

An international buying bench included leading Irish agents Adrian Nichol and John McGrath, Marie Debausser (Asian Bloodstock Services) and Peter Hingston of Japan, World Wide Bloodstock of South Africa, Grandway Racehorse Company of Hong Kong and Mr JH Wood of New Zealand, also; Gai Waterhouse, David Hayes, John Moore, Harry Lawton Thoroughbreds, Tim Martin, Bart Cummings, Graeme Rogerson Bloodstock, Star Thoroughbreds, Aquanita Racing, etc.

A Danehill filly out of Nuwirah (Lot 20) topped the sale at $700,000 purchased by Irish Bloodstock agent Adrian Nichol of BBA Ireland, the filly will remain in Australia to be trained by Tony McEvoy of the Hayes family's Lindsay Park Racing Stables fame.

Danehill colts proved popular as expected with Marie Debausser of Asian Bloodstock Services paying $500,000 for a colt out of Sierra Finch.

Lot 2 the Sunday Silence colt out of Nance Chrissie, offered for sale by John Singleton's Strawberry Hill Stud sold for $450,000 to Gold Coast based trainer Alan Bailey.

The Full Brother to Snowland, by the legendary sire in Snippets, offered for sale by Stratheden Stud, Tamworth NSW fulfilled all expectations by attaining $550,000 in his sale to Victorian trainer Rick Hore-Lacy.
