 55. Red Ransom Filly a New Melbourne Sale Topper

11/02/2003

A new sale topping price has been reached at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne when Lady of Pines' half sister was knocked down for a healthy $260,000 earlier today.

Fresh from the headlines after brokering the Murphy's Blu Boy, Sydney based bloodstock agent David Lamond joined into the bidding duel for the filly and was delighted to buy the topper.

"She wasn't the best filly in the sale. She was the best horse in the sale," Lamond stated moments after the hammer fell.

Bidding for the filly kicked off at $100,000 and quickly rose to $200,000 before three final bids of $20,000 saw her price accelerate to $260,000.

A big the push the filly's price to $280,000 was a split second too late as Peter Heagney's hammer fell as the bid was received.

"She was a really impressive filly with a good presence and a solid length," Lamond added.

"Overall she was an outstanding type," he said when adding the filly would join the Sydney stables of Ron Quinton.

The Super Vobis qualified filly is from the dual winning Tolomeo mare Calemeo who is the dam of the Group One Thousand Guineas winner Lady of the Pines.

Offered by Lilydale based Devon Park Stud, the filly is by the former Champion American Freshman Sire Red Ransom, the sire of the Blue Diamond Prelude and Preview winning filly Halibery.
