 52. Broodmare Sale Returns To Easter

11/02/2003

The Australian Weanling and Broodmare Sale will return to its traditional Easter dates at Newmarket in April.

The most important breeding stock sale in Australia will be held over three days following the Australian Easter Yearling Sale on April 22, 23 and 24.

The Broodmare and Weanling Sale was last held at Easter in 1999. It has since fluctuated between datres in May and June but is returning to its traditional dates following numerous requests from international buyers who attend the Australian Easter Yearling Sale and find it difficult to return at a later date.

William Inglis and Son managing director Reg Inglis also consulted a number of vendors who also supported the move.

“Traditionally, buyers would come to Sydney at Easter for the best in racing, yearlings and broodmares - in 2003 this tradition will be revived," Inglis said.

The new format will see the select Sires’ Produce Yearling Sale take place on Sunday April 27 with the Australian Select Weanling Sale and the Australian Broodmare Sale to run from April 28 to April 30.

An new bonus for broodmare and weanling vendors will be the abandonment of the pass in commission on lots not sold.

Entries for the Australian Select Weanling Sale and Australian Broodmare Sale close on Friday February 28.

The Broodmare and Weanling Sale has realised more than $200 million worth of breeding stock sales to buyers from around the world in the last five years.
