Steady Opening At

A
bay filly by Flying Spur out of an unraced three quarter sister to Group 1
winners Bonnanova, Telesto and Fraternity topped the opening session of the
William Inglis Premier Yearling sale at Oaklands Junction, Melbourne today.
Consigned by Arundel Farm Estate the session topper was sold to prominent N.Z.
based agent Paul Moroney for $115,000.
The filly is from the pre-eminent family of champion European racemare Habibti
and Broodmare Of The Year Eight Carat, dam of Group One winners Octagonal,
Mouawad, Kaapstad, Marquise and Diamond Lover (dam of Tristalove, Don Eduardo
and Antwerp (dam of Viscount)) and Cotelele House (dam of Danewin).
The only other yearling to make 100,000 was a chestnut colt by Perugino (USA)
out of the Melbourne winning Marscay mare Apache Gold. Consigned by Collingrove
Stud the good-topped colt was snapped up by Tony Bott.
Earlier in the day a three-quarter brother to Hong Kong Horse Of The Year
Indigenous was passed in for $155,000, short of his $160,000 reserve.
At the conclusion of the first day 156 yearlings sold had grossed $5,580,000 at
an average of $35,769 and a median of $30,000. This is a slight increase in
average over last year when the opening day was on a Sunday with 80 yearlings
selling for $2,831,500 at an average of $35,393. Disappointingly 56 of the 212
lots offered left the ring unsold.
