Stud’s decision to purchase Chile’s champion stallion Hussonet (Mr.
Prospector-Sacahuista by Raja Baba) paid immediate dividends when Nelson Bunker
Hunt’s Seinne (CHI) (Hussonet--White Lady, by Worldwatch) overpowered last
start Hollywood Gold Cup (G1) winner Sligo Bay (Ire) (Sadler's Wells--Angelic
Song, by Halo) by 1 ¼-lengths in the $US100,000 Tanforan Handicap at Golden
Gate Fields on Saturday.
It was the seventh win in 23 career starts for Seinne whose earnings stand at
$420,033. He captured the Grade 2 Arcadia Handicap at Santa Anita last year as
well as finishing runner-up in the in the Grade 2 Citation Handicap at Hollywood
Park on November 30.
Trained by Ron McAnally, the undisputed master of conditioning South
American-bred racehorses to win at the top level in the U.S., and ridden by Ron
Warren Jr, Ceinne stopped the clock at 1:42, the fastest time of the meeting for
1 1/16 miles on turf.
"This horse is so professional," said Warren of the 6-year-old
Chilean-bred horse. "I could tell right away he had a lot of class. He did
everything perfect. When I pointed him for a gap, he really took off. He really
zipped by them."
Ceinne is out of the Nijinsky mare Worldwatch who won one of her two starts in
the U.K. Her dam Georgica (Raise a Native) is a three-time winning daughter of
the outstanding broodmare Queen Sucree (Ribot) also the dam of Kentucky Derby
(G1) winner Cannonade (Bold Bidder) and his multiple stakes winning brother
Circle Home. Queen Sucree is a half sister to the champion stallion Halo (Hail
To Reason) and the champion racemare Tosmah (Tim Tam). Queen Sucree’s stakes
winning dam Cosmah (Cosmic Bomb) is a half sister to the remarkable broodmare
Natalma (Native Dancer) dam of one of the most influential stallions in the
history of the modern thoroughbred, Northern Dancer (Nearctic), and third dam of
the incomparable Danehill (Danzig).
The regally bred Hussonet is a son of the legendary Mr. Prospector out of the
Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Sacahuista. His first crop earned him honours as
the Champion 2YO sire of Chile in 1998 and has stood on top of the General Sires
title every year since then. His 2003 Southern Hemisphere fee will be $24,750
