 39. Former Perth Gallopers Star in Singapore

06/02/2003

Former Perth dual Group 1 winner Summer Beau now racing in Singapore as Pacific Prince recently topped the $2 million earnings mark when he won a $100,000 race at his first run for seven months.

Another former Western Australian in the news is Superb Effect, winner of 12 races and $1.28 million. Ranked the fastest horse at Kranji, Superb Effect has been included on the International Classification listings for the second successive year being allocated 110 points.

Navajo Plains Horse Stud is offering a full sister to Superb Effect at the Perth yearling sale. Both horses are by Bletchley Park out of Corporate Dancer who is a half sister to recent Group 1 placed Finito (13 wins $460,000).

Ascot trainer Graham Webster senior has been successfully selecting yearlings at sales throughout Australasia for many years.

His patience during last year's local yearling sales saw him walk away with the last lot in the premier catalogue, a grey colt by Bletchley Park out of the metropolitan winning Carry A Smile mare Pure Smile, a half sister to Group 3 winner Terewilliger.

Last Saturday Webster produced the subsequently named Pure Excitement to debut in the two year old event at Ascot and he duly lived up to his name and scored for his syndicate of owners.

Pure Excitement went into the race after being a very impressive trial winner almost two weeks previously when his opposition could only get to within six lengths of him.

Webster's outlay of $26,000 for the colt looks set to be well and truly covered judging by the quality of his performance however connections are disappointed they did not show enough faith in Pure Excitement initially, as he was not entered for the $102,000 Magic Millions Classic at the time he was purchased.

All yearlings sold at this years Perth Magic Millions sale will be eligible to enter next years race, which is to be worth $150,000.

The wonderful performance of the three-year-old Rubiton filly Innovation Girl to take out the Group 3 The Debonair at Flemington has helped push her sire to third position on the national sires list.

Rubiton's progeny have earned about $2.7 million this season and won 55 races including 11 stakes events.

Lots 122 and 163 in the Perth Yearling sale catalogue are a son and daughter by Rubiton and are offered by Canardly and Mungrup Studs respectively.

The colt is out of a half sister to Group winner Royal Rubiton and the filly is half sister to the listed winner Beyond Dispute.

During Rubiton's outstanding career his 10 wins included four Group 1 victories and he defeated Western Australian galloper Fair Sir when he was successful in the 1987 Cox Plate.

Rubiton's younger full brother Euclase also scored on 10 occasions including one Group 1 event and currently stands at Ron Sayers Yarradale Stud.

Euclase's 30 winners this season have won 47 races and $541,115. He has seven yearlings represented in the up-coming Perth Yearling Sales including a half sister to stakes placed three year old filly Turn To Dream.

The De Grey Park bred Turn To Dream broke through for her first city win last Saturday and according to her trainer George Davies will be set for the Western Austraslian Oaks in April.

Victorian trainer Tony Noonan outlaid NZ $110,000 for a brown colt by Heytesbury Stud's first season shuttle stallion Second Empire, at the recent Karaka Yearling sales in New Zealand.

Second Empire was a top Group 1 winning two-year-old in Europe and is well represented at the Perth sales with 15 entries. His stakes winning half brother Ihtiram also stands in Western Australia and from his first crop of two year olds he has only had one to race, the metropolitan placed Rondeau Turka.

Ihtiram's only three offspring to be offered this year will be a bay colt out of Old Spice mare Quern, a full sister to current Group 1 Australian Cup holder Old Comrade.

First season sire Love A Dane will be a stallion that should command a lot of attention when his progeny go through the sales ring. He is a Danehill stallion with an impeccable pedigree being out the stakes winner Tristalove a sister to stakes winner Antwerp (the dam of top colt Viscount) , a three-quarter sister to champion New Zealand sire Kaapstad and half sister to AJC Derby winner Don Eduardo.

Love A Dane's grandam is a half sister to Octagonal and Mouawad and he was sold for $550,000 as a yearling at the Easter sales in Sydney in 1998. His half brother by Grand Lodge is the early tip to possibly top this years Sydney Easter sale.
