The
booming success of the SuperVOBIS bonus scheme will again underpin the three-day
Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale at Oaklands Junction on February 10, 11 and 13.
Victoria's leading breeders and consignors have worked hard to make the Premier
Sale the major source of horses eligible to participate in the lucrative Super
VOBIS scheme.
The vast majority of the 580 lots in the catalogue will sport the distinctive
SuperVOBIS logo, supplemented by vendors from interstate and New Zealand.
The Premier Sale has been extended to three days with the addition of the
newly-created Premier II session on February 13.
Recent graduates of the Premier Sale include brilliant sprinter Rubitano, who
cost $95,000 in 1999 and has now won almost $1.3 million from 11 wins in 18
starts including the G1 Newmarket Handicap and G1 Salinger Stakes.
Weight-for-age star Fields of Omagh, class fillies Before Too Long, Lashed and
Fuji Dancer and two-year-old stars Ra Sun and Pinchbeck are other Premier sale
graduates of recent times.
The 2003 Premier Sale will feature more than 50 yearlings from stakeswinning
mares and siblings to some 100 stakeswinners.
They include full or half relations to the Group One winners Brawny Spirit (colt
by Rubiton), Lady of the Pines (filly by Red Ransom), Lochrae (filly by Festival
Hall), Pride of Rancho (filly by Umatilla), Rustic Dream (filly by Umatilla) ,
Sober Suit (colt by Perugino), Solvit (colt by Desert Sun) and Rubitano’s
brother by Rubiton.
There is only lot by the great Danehill, from the Alleged mare Chorus Song,
while Zabeel has two fillies from Australasian Oaks winner Yelgun Dawn and the
Marscay mare Rebisca.
Other richly-bred fillies include a Thunder Gulch half-sister to G3 winner The
Man out of champion Kiwi two year old Lycra; the first foal of Danehill's G3
winner Kilspindie by Red Ransom; a filly by Zeditave from G3 winner and proven
producer Seaside Lady; first foal of former brilliant juvenile Northeast Sheila
by End Sweep; a half sister to G2 winner Rain Dance Lady by first season sire
Commands; and a half-sister to Chattanooga by Favorite Trick.
The colts include a half-brother to G2 winner Requiem by Grand Lodge; a half
brother by Scenic to G2 winner Ancient Song; a half brother to high class miler
Weasel Will by Flying Spur; a Danzero colt from NZ Oaks winner Sawatdee; and a
three-quarter brother-in-blood to Hong Kong champion Indigenous by Marju.
