 26. Inglis Premier Classic race review

05/02/2003

1. RA SUN (vendor – Ballymore Thoroughbreds as agent).
Was a standout on type at Premier last year and has shown the ability to match his good looks. Won the VRC Maribyrnong Plate Gr 2 at Flemington during the spring and is entitled to be favourite for this after a solid first up run when placed in the MRC Blue Diamond Preview Gr 3. General Nediym has already sired the winner of the Magic Millions and can certainly repeat the dose here.

2. PINCHBECK (Tremon Thoroughbreds).
Talented colt with a win over Ra Sun to his credit and was beaten less than a length when second to that colt in the vRC Maribyrnong Plate Gr 2. Can improve on recent efforts and is sure to be spot on for this engagement.

3. NEO (Emirates Park as agent).
Produced a super run first up when second to Murphy’s Blu Boy in the MRC Blue Diamond Preview Gr 3 and will take some beating on that effort. Trainer Mick Price has his juveniles really firing and this fellow is sure to go close.

4. SON OF SPARTACUS (Yallambee Stud as agent).
Won on debut in Adelaide back in the spring and resumed with an even run at Cheltenham. By all accounts was above himself on that occasion and will strip a much fitter horse here.

5. WINESTOCK (Emirates Park).
Honest type who showed improvement from a debut second at Ballarat to win comfortably at Sandown at next appearance. Looks well up to this and is sure to run well.

6. FRESH BOY (Erinvale Thoroughbreds as agent).
Stoutly bred on his mother’s side and found the pace too hot on debut when run off his legs behind Rinky Dink over 1000 metres. Improved sharply to lead all the way and win at Sandown over 1300 metres at second start and will be strong at the finish.

7. ALASTRO (Manner Lodge as agent).
Half-brother to brilliant speedster Deprave and has obviously got plenty of the family ability. Prepared in New Zealand and bolted in at Avondale last start convincing connections to make the trip to Melbourne. Not here for a haircut and deserves the utmost respect.

8. SESARO TIMING (The Independent Stallion Station as agent).
Beaten at first start behind well regarded filly Beautiful Gem and then came out to score an easy win at Moe last Saturday. Obviously on the improve and could fill a place.

9. CRESTON KING (Erinvale Thoroughbreds as agent).
Trained by Bede Murray who took this race out last year with Recruiting. Won on debut at Kembla, then had little luck when midfield at Rosehill last Saturday. Has ability and will be well prepared for this assignment.

10. PERUSEN (Kornong Stud Farm).
Placed at only two starts, most recent when third in good company at Caulfield and beaten just over a length. Capable type who could run into a place without surprising.

11. MR MUNDINE (Newlands Thoroughbreds)
Cleverly named colt, by Quest for Fame (USA) from Little Bit Nasty (USA). Will need to show a lot more heart than his namesake if he’s going to win this one on debut.

12. SPARTAKLE (Yallambee Stud).
Bred to be quick and only beaten 3.5 lengths at first appearance over 1000 metres at Caulfield. Bound to be improved by that experience.

13. TYCOON MISS (Newlands Thoroughbreds as agent).
Very impressive at first and only start when she zoomed away from her rivals to score easily at Flemington over 1000 metres. Her dam Gogo Doll was a stakes-winner over 2000 metres so should have no worries with the longer journey here. Big chance to knock over the colts.
