In a
blow to trainer John O'Shea, Shot Of Thunder will not race again.
Steve Morley, Marketing and Administration Manager for Glenlogan Stud, advised
this afternoon that the colt, winner of the Toorak Handicap has injured his near
foreleg.
The decision was made to retire him early to Glenlogan Park for the upcoming
season, after he suffered a slight setback in the stable that would require a
couple of months in the paddock.
The talented galloper was always scheduled to join the ranks of Show A Heart,
Falvelon, King Of Danes and co at Glenlogan in the upcoming spring, but this
small mishap has resulted in him finding his way to the paddock as a last start
Group One winner.
Trainer John O’Shea is very disappointed at not having the opportunity to
prepare Shot Of Thunder for an autumn and winter campaign.
“The horse had come back in fantastic order and would have been extremely
competitive in the Newmarket,” O’Shea said.
“He is a quality individual who was going to give all the big races a
tremendous shake this time in.
'It is very disappointing to lose him as it is such a small injury, however he
will no doubt let down into a magnificent stallion and should prove very popular
with breeders – I know I will certainly be looking for his progeny when they
hit the yearling sales rings.”
Shot Of Thunder was being prepared for the $2.5M Group One Doncaster Handicap
(1600m) at Randwick on April 19, followed by the Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) in
Brisbane during the winter carnival.
