Mick Hicks has confirmed that he has sold a 49% in unbeaten two year old
Murphy’s Blu Boy in a deal negotiated on the weekend by bloodstock agent David
Lamond.
The new owner Brian Roddy is a friend of Lamond’s who received a phone call
while from Roddy at the Karaka yearling sales in New Zealand last week with the
pair travelling to Goondiwindi on the weekend to cement the deal.
Roddy will race his 49% share in partnership with his brother Geoffrey and told
Tony Clements on Radio TAB this morning that “it had been an exciting week.”
Roddy added “We have been around racing all our lives and have raced a few
scrubbers but never a really good horse like this.”
Roddy recently sold a hotel and said “I had a few bob in the bank and decided
to buy into the horse.”
While Roddy would not comment on how much he paid for his 49% share in Murphy's
Blu Boy, Hicks had earlier told Tony Clements that it was close to $1 million
but certainly wasn't the biggest offer on the table.
The transfer of the 49% share was finalized this morning so that he could race
in this Saturday’s Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude 1100m in the joint ownership
of Hicks and the Roddy brothers with Hicks retaining a 51% share in Murphy’s
Blu Boy and continuing to train the colt.
