 15. KARAKA NATIONAL SALE - Fillies Select Sale

02/02/2003

A Centaine filly brought the top price of $NZ110,000 when the NZ National Yearling Sale concluded on February 2 with the Select Fillies sale.

Class fillies made good prices, led by Centaine’s daughter from the unraced Kaapstad mare Harriett.

She represents a strong Australasian black type family that boasts noted stayers Omnicorp, Zamazaan Lass, Pharostan and Prince Bourbon.

The top end of the market was strong with two fillies making $NZ100,000 or better and 10 making $NZ70,000 or more. Also making six figures was a filly by Gold Brose, further proof of the demand for the limited remaining progeny by the late sire.

The average of $NZ25,970 was close to last year’s figure of $NZ26,214 with 152 lots selling for a total of $NZ3,947,500.

The clearance rate was a solid 70 percent with a median price of $NZ21,000.

Leading trainer Paul O’Sullivan was the leading buyer on aggregate, securing eight yearlings for a total of $NZ395,500 but Graeme Rogerson topped him by numbers, taking home 12 fillies for a total of $NZ245,000.
