 5. Hennessy Stays In Kentucky, Anabaa Injured

11/8/2003

Coolmore Stud has lost another top ranking sire from its roster for this spring with Hennessy a late withdrawal from shuttle service.

The outstanding son of Storm Cat was scheduled to return to Australia this year after missing the 2002 season following his outstanding success around the globe over the last 12 months, including his Australian G1 winners Grand Armee and Half Hennessy.

Hennessy was scheduled to be flown to Australia over the weekend but an elevated temperature forced him to remain at Kentucky’s Ashford Stud.

He is the second top US-based Coolmore shuttle sire to miss the 2003 season in Australia after it was decided last month not to send Thunder Gulch from Kentucky.

The addition of Choisir following his purchase by Coolmore last month will leave the Hunter valley stud with a roster of 16 stallions this spring.

Meanwhile champion Frenchs ire Anabaa has had his return to Australia delayed by a paddock accident.

Widden Stud was advised that Anabaa could not travel until at least the end of the month after being injured at French stud Haras du Quesney.

Anabaa, who has been shuttling to Australia for six seasons and was represented by last season’s champion sprinter Yell, strained his near fore fetlock in the accident.

At this stage it is hoped Anabaa will land back in Australia by the end of August and be released from quarantine by September 12.
