Guru, Racehorse Breeder and Owner Extraordinaire John Singleton is about to
weave his magic in Adelaide.
Singleton announced today the formation of the Adelaide Magic Millions Carnival
committee, which will be chaired by Lindsay Park Marketing Manager Sam Hayes.
The committee was the brainchild of Singleton, and Robert Champion de Crespigny,
Chairman of South Australia’s Economic Development Board, with the new
initiative backed by the South Australian Jockey Club, Thoroughbred Racing SA,
Magic Millions and the South Australian Government.
Singleton is aiming at building a carnival of events on track, in the sales ring
and in the social arena, which will deliver significant benefits for not only
the South Australian Racing and Breeding Industry, but the local economy by
drawing interstate and international visitors.
South Australia is the Festival State and you know how to throw a party, said
Singleton.
You’ve got the weather, the food, the wine, the people and creativity…all
the ingredients for success.
The Adelaide Magic Millions Carnival will be staged over nine days and nights,
commencing on Saturday the 21st of February 2004.
One of the key dates of the carnival is the Magic Millions Raceday at
Morphetville on Wednesday the 25th which features Adelaide’s richest race, the
$400,000 Adelaide Magic Millions.
The Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sales series will be conducted over four
days on the 24th, 25th, 26th and 29th of February.
The Adelaide Magic Millions Carnival has gained significant support from all
sections of the racing and breeding industry, in addition to the backing of
South Australian Premier Mike Rann.
Racing is one of South Australia’s largest industries and the Magic Millions
Carnival is a chance to showcase to interstate and overseas visitors all that is
great about our state, said Premier Rann.
Singleton points to the wide ranging benefits enjoyed by the Gold Coast and
Queensland economies, on the back of the success of the Conrad Jupiters Magic
Millions Carnival.
Buyers from all around the world come to the Gold Coast in January and we have
been able to put on a show that makes them want to come back year after year,
said Singleton.
Adelaide can be a similar success through its own unique attractions and the
sale of some of Australia’s best bred thoroughbreds.
