Australian
two year-old combatants Octagonal and Flying Spur provided the quinella in the
Listed King Charlemagne Platinum Stakes at Cork in Ireland earlier this week,
via their daughters Dossier and Twiggy’s Sister.
Dossier is a three year-old bay daughter of Octagonal and is owned and bred by
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum.
Now unbeaten in her only two starts, the John Oxx trained Dossier is likely to
now be aimed at Group Two company at Leopardstown in early September, and looks
to have the credentials to stamp her sire in Europe.
Second in the 1600m event was Flying Spur mare Twiggy’s Sister, who was ridden
by Mick Kinane, who failed narrowly to overcome Dossier in the concluding stages
with Johnny Murtagh driving the Octagonal filly to a fighting win.
Dossier is out of the Shaadi (by Danzig) mare Papering, a top class Italian mare
who won at Group Two and Three level, whilst she was also runner up at Group One
level in the Prix Vermeille at Longchamp and the Yorkshire Oaks at York.
Papering is out of the Kris (by Sharpen Up) mare Wrapping, herself a Group One
runner up in the Italian Oaks at Milan.
A classic pedigree, Dossier indicates her future may well lie in races over
staying journeys.
Dossiers win comes in the same week where Octagonal’s co-breeder Jack Ingham
passed away, after carving out a world class racing and breeding operation,
spearheaded by an aggressive and innovative breeding program now headed by
former track star Octagonal.
Whilst Ingham and brother Bob have not been keen to pursue overseas targets for
their huge racing team, the brothers have helped pioneer closer links between
the European and Australian breeding industries through shuttle arrangements for
Octagonal, Dracula, Quest For Fame and Desert Prince.
