29/8/2003

Group One winner mare Pernod has been retired to stud.

The daughter of Centaine is owned by New Zealand’s Trelawney Stud but is expected to be have her first mating in Australia, probably with the top shuttle sire Red Ransom at Vinery Stud.

Trelawney Stud has indicated she will remain in Australia for the next 12 months to produce her first foal before returning to New Zealand.

Trained by Mike Moroney, Pernod won eight of her 19 starts with her high point being her victoiry her victory in last spring’s GI Dubai Racing Club Cup (1400m) at Caulfield.

She was also third in the G1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield but has been plagued by injury problems this year, ending plans for her to attempt a return to racing this spring.

She underwent surgery to remove bone chips from a knee in February and had returned to training in the hope she would be ready for another attempt at the Dubai Racing Club Cup.
