 15. Arrowfield locks up the Deputy Minister

29/8/2003

Deputy Minister has firmly established himself as a Sire of Sires with five sons – Dehere, French Deputy, Silver Deputy, Deputy Commander and Salt Lake all in the Top 100 Sires of the USA.

Dehere in fact had the distinction of ending last season in the Top 10 Sires of the USA as well as being Australia’s Leading Active Sire.

Two other Nor thern Dancer line stallions, Danzig and Storm Cat have 4 and 7 representatives respectively in the Top 100.

Deputy Minister’s sons are producing a higher rate of stakeswinners to foals than the sons of either Danzig or Storm Cat. In fact, the sons of Deputy Minister have emerged  with 160 stakeswinners between them from 2,526 foals of acing age to date, for a ratio of 6.5% stakeswinners to foals. The comparative ratios of stakeswinners for the 4 sons of Danzig and the 7 sons of Storm Cat in the Top 100 are 5% and 4.5%.

Also, statistics confirm that all five sons of Deputy Minister are upgrading their mares. Deputy Minister’s influence is not restricted to his sons, but has flowed onto the distaff side.

To date he is the broodmare sire of 79 stakeswinners from 1,017 foals of racing age, including Belmont Stakes winner Savara and the current Top North American Turf horse Redattore, as well as the leading 3yo colt Strong Hope. This has led to Deputy Minister, moving to become the 2nd Leading Sire of Broodmares in the USA in the 2003 season, marginally behind Mr Prospector.

Dehere and French Deputy represent the best sons of Deputy Minister available anywhere in the world and both can be accessed at Arrowfield Stud in the 2003 breeding season.
