His
Excellency Nasser Lootah’s Emirates Park Stud was one of the more active
buyers at todays William Inglis and Son August Thoroughbred Sale at Oaklands
Junction.
Emirates Park secured the top three broodmares at the sale, including the top
lot Coppelius which fetched $88,000.
Coppelius is an American bred daughter of Pleasant Colony, out of the
Stakesplaced Sadler’s Wells mare Lilian Bayliss.
Lilian Bayliss is the dam of Strike A Blow, a stakeswinning son of Red Ransom.
This is the family of Agnes World.
Coppelius has not been to stud, and was offered by George Footit’s Tasman Park
at Romsey.
The second top priced broodmare was Strategic mare Primary Vision, which was
sold in foal to last seasons leading first season sire General Nediym.
Emirates Park snapped up Primary Vision for $42,000.
Ambrosine, a daughter of Unbridled’s Song sold well fetching $36,000 again to
the bid of Emirates Park.
Unplaced from her only five starts under Caulfield trainer Bill Mitchell;
Ambrosine is a daughter of Miswaki mare Miss Allicance.
An unnamed Desert King three year-old filly also fetched good money, with lot
197 a daughter of Sweet Embrace winner Postage due knocked down to Barree Stud
for $34,000.
In the tried horse section of the catalogue, seven year-old gelding Aka Bilk was
the top lot going to Jason Williams for $46,000.
Aka Bilk is currently racing and has placed second at his last two appearances
including being runner up at his last start at Sandown Hillside behind Russian
Caravan on the 9th of August.
Previously trained by David Hall, Aka Bilk has won seven races from forty two
starts, and has amassed prizemoney of $296,000.
Another tried horse to attract plenty of attention was Belong To Me four
year-old Stratton Place.
A winner of two races at Echuca and Geelong, Stratton Place was previously
trained by Matthew Ellerton for his principal owner David Moodie, in partnership
with Rob Clemenger, Ron & Rod Dufficy and Andrew Harcourt.
Stratton Place was sold as a lightly raced commodity having won or placed in six
of his seven starts. He was sold to Quentin Scott for $40,000.
