Stud’s Desert Prince achieved a significant milestone at Sandown (UK) on
Saturday when the John Gosden-trained Foss Way gave Desert Prince his first
stakes winner when successful in the Group 3 Solario Stakes.
It was the second win from three starts for Foss way who was coming off a 1 ¼
lengths win in a maiden at Goodwood on July 30.
The Sheikh Mohammed-owned Foss Way was purchased for Ire220,000 at the 2001
Goffs Orby sale.
The dam of Foss Way, Lishaway (Polish Precedent) finished second in two career
starts in France and is a half-sister to three stakes winners including the
outstanding miler Gold Away (Goldneyev) the winner of 5 races including the Prix
Muguet (G2) and twice second in the prestigious Prix de Moulin de Longchamp
(G1). The dam of Lishaway and Gold Away, the Blushing Groom mare Blushing Away
is a stakes-placed daughter of the top-class Raja Baba mare Sweet Revenge a
multiple Grade 1 placed winner of the Alcibiades Stakes (G2), Adirondack Stakes
(G3), Schuylerville Stakes (G3) and Astarita Stakes (G3).
A son of the Danzig stallion Green Desert, Desert Prince was highest-rated
three-year old on the 1998 International Classifications. His 5 wins from 11
starts included the Prix du Moulin (G1), Irish 1000 Guineas (G1) and Queen
Elizabeth 11 Stakes (G1). Desert Prince retired to the Irish national stud in
1999 and Woodlands Stud later that year.
The first Australian conceived crop by Desert Prince hit the racetracks this
year and the buzz is there are a few in the Hawkes camp showing above average
ability.
