The sale of a number of mares at the William Inglis Sydney Spring sale on Friday September 20 will be a nostalgic occasion for Hilton Cope of Kelvinside, Aberdeen. The former prominent jockey has had a quarter century association with the families of three of the mares, Classic Victory and Spinnaker Bay and her daughter At The Bay and has bred good winners using them including Al Mansour, a triple Group1 winner.

Al Mansour's dam Classic Victory is due to have a November foal by Redoute's Choice, Spinnaker Bay an end of October foal by King's Best and At the Bay one by Spectrum.

The inclusion of the mares in the spring sale catalogue follows the sale of Kelvinside to Sheikh Mohammed's Darley group.

All told 83 females including 42 broodmares have been included in the128 lot catalogue for the sale. They include daughters of such fashionable sires as Hurricane Sky, Marauding, Night Shift,Yeats, Grand Lodge, Bletchingly, Quest for Fame, Rubiton, Snippets, Royal Academy, Dehere, Unbridled's Song, Thunder Gulch, Hector Protector and Geiger Counter.

Spirited bidding is expected when the six-year-old Alquoz mare Nanny Maroon is offered by her breeder-owners to dissolve the partnership. Formerly trained at Scone by Paul Englebrecht but now in Bob Thompson's stables at Randwick, she is the winner of eleven races including four Listed stakes and placed third in the Group1 STC Coolmore Classic.
