Although
they have no connection with the breeding, the management at the German owned
Vinery Stud in the Segenhoe Valley would have been delighted with the win of
Snowland in the $100,000 Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
The win, the eighth from twelve starts for the Snippets three-year-old colt, one
trained by Gai Waterhouse for the Cojuangco owned Mudgee based Gooree Pastoral
Company, came in the same week that it was announced that Vinery had acquired
Snowland's dam, the France bred Snowdrift.
She is in a package of 23 mares which Vinery has purchased from Maitland
district grazier and Stratheden Stud,Tamworth, owner Brian Marheine. The sale of
these mares also included the dam of Australian juvenile and three-year-old
champion Assertive Lad.
Besides selling the mares to Vinery, the Marheines have wound down their
involvement in breeding by making alternative arrangements for the three
stallions which stood at Stratheden last year. They are Switch In Time (moved to
Queensland), Pauillac (Ken Delforce's Kendel Park Stud at WillowTree ) and
Vitrinite (Pine Lodge,Scone).
A post racing career has already been arranged for Snowland and involves him
standing at the Widden Stud by arrangement with the Gooree Pastoral Company.
Snowland's grandsire Lunchtime was a major success at Widden.
