The
richest 3YO race in Malaysia the $RM325,000 Penang Turf Club 2002 Magic Millions
Classic, over 1200m held at the Penang Racecourse was run on Sunday the 8th
September 2002.
A top class field of 15 runners contested the race and the winner, firm
favourite FLYING ACE (Rory’s Jester – Magpies), won brilliantly by 10
lengths.
Flying Ace was sold at the 2001 Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale for
$85,000 offered for sale by Rob Ferguson’s Torryburn Stud. Owned by Penang
based Richard Beh, he is trained by Bill Lee and was ridden by champion Western
Australian jockey Alana Sansom.
Second placing went to PRIME TREASURE (by Magic Of Money), and third to STARRING
(by Success Express). Both placegetters were offered at the 2001 Perth Magic
Millions Yearling Sale.
The richest race of the two day Penang meeting was the $RM750,000 Sprint Trophy,
won by the Jetball gelding OPPOSING FORCE, trained by former English jockey
Richard Lines. Lines also trained the winner of the Gold Coast Turf Club Trophy
with WA bred RICHTER SCALE by Is It True.
Last year’s Penang Turf Club Malaysian Magic Millions Classic winner, KIKO’S
POWER by El Moxie, won Race 9 on the programme, a $RM70,000 Class 1 event.
David Chester, Magic Millions Managing Director, in his presentation speech
reminded local owners and trainers that two-year-olds being offered at the
forthcoming Perth and Gold Coast Horses In Training Sales, as well as the
Malaysian National Stud Farm Sale, will be eligible for the 2003 Malaysian
event.
