 2. US Group Win For Marscay-Arborea Gelding

01/09/2002

Story By Chris Scholtz

Delta Form, an Australian-bred son of late champion sire Marscay, has recorded a Group 2 win in America.

Delta Form, who was purchased in Australia as a yearling and began his racing career in South Africa, won the G2 Del Mar Handicap over 11furlongs on the turf on September 1.

Delta Form, now a six-year-old gelding, has won twice in the US from five starts since he was purchased from South Africa by Gary Barber and Team Valor.

Overall he has won eight of his 23 career starts and more than $US400,000 prizemoney.

Delta Form was bred in Australia from Imperial Prince’s multiple G1 winner Arborea, whose eight victories included the G1 VRC Oaks, G1 VATC Thousand Guineas, G2 VRC Wakeful Stakes and G2 STC Phar Lap Stakes.

He was Arborea’s first foal and was offered by Yarraman Park Stud as agent for his US-based breeder Lindsey WIlliams at the 1998 Australian Easter Yearling Sale where he was purchased by South Africa’s Delta Bloodstock for $85,000.

Williams resides on his broodmare farm in Kentucky and has long-standing breeding interests in Australia.

Arborea produced another two foals in Australia, both fillies by Last Tycoon, before she continued her breeding career in the US where she has a two-year-old by Royal Academy and a yearling by Forest Wildcat.

The third placegetter in the Del Mar Handicap Blue Stellar also has a link to Australia as he is by the former shuttle sire Barathea.
