 19. Youngsters Impress in Flemington Breeze Ups

05/09/2002

The first of two scheduled breeze up sessions was held at Flemington this morning, featuring 60 two year olds dashing home their final 200 metres on the all weather track.

The remaining youngsters will go through their paces at Royal Randwick on Monday morning from 10.15 am.

The overall times recorded were of the high standard we have come to expect, with 44 youngsters clocking better than 12 seconds and one very slick pair of colts from Rosemont Stud sliding home in 10.40 seconds.

The talented duo were well matched, a Perugino (USA) colt from former brilliant racefilly Pride of Ingenue (Lot 34) and a chestnut colt by Melbourne Cup winner Kingston Rule (USA) from Crown and Glory (Lot 121).

Lindsay Park Stud as agent produced a very smart type in the shape of Lot 97, an athletic bay colt by Danehill (USA) from Alpine Spirit, an unraced half-sister to stakes-winner Schubert. The well bred colt impressed many onlookers with a stylish gallop in 10.80 seconds and in a recent update to the pedigree, his three-quarter brother Stanford, a $1.1 million yearling purchase, is now a most promising winner at Randwick.

Another youngster to make a good impression was Lot 144, a big strong chestnut colt by Spinning World (USA) from From the Palace (NZ), who cruised through his gallop comfortably in 11.64 seconds. The manner in which he strode to the line had all the good judges talking and he was one of the most admired horses at this morning's session.
